What does a compressor do? A compressor adds an element of control to your playing level – it will bring the quieter parts up and the louder parts down. While an ordinary compressor pedal can give you an element of control, a great compressor will give you the “feel” that other average compressors lack. If you’ve played a great tube amp when it’s being pushed hard, you’ll know what a great natural compression feels like.

When we designed this pedal, the focus was ensuring the playing dynamics could be retained and that the compressor didn’t color the tone at all. By incorporating a clean blend, it allows your original signal to be blended back in so you can get all the benefits of a great compressor (picking up the notes that aren’t as strong and increasing sustain) but have the option to remove the squash at the front. With this control, you can have full country squash or open studio level parallel compression.

So, with a comprehensive array of controls and a core tone that is pure, you won’t find a compressor that works as perfectly as an “always on” or as “an effect” and is more highly regarded than the Ego Compressor from Wampler Pedals.

  1. Rich H.

Just picked up an brand new Ego v2 and it’s great! I play Strats and Teles through various Fender amps and the Ego adds its own glorious flavor.Easy to use and I quickly dialed in a nice punchy sustaining tone and played and played.
I have tried and owned many different types and brands and this easily hangs with any of them.Including more costly compressors. Very musical!!

  2. Maja Rennick

The most musical and natural feeling/responding compression pedal I’ve found. The range of compression and how it operates is up there with studio rack gear for guitar use. I love a gentle smoothing compression, which this does perfectly. Towards the other end of the spectrum however, the sonically flat extreme is still musical, and ludicrous amounts of sustain are utterly usable with almost no noise introduction. If you want that 80’s pumping sound – yup, it’s there. If you don’t, and want something utterly natural – yup, that’s there too.

In summary: this pedal bridges musicality/expression with rack level functionality and versatility in a pedal format that stands shoulders above anything else I’ve tried.

  3. Paul Torres

I’ve been playing electric guitar since 1969. I lean towards single coils tones and I have always wanted a compressor that we simple to use, quiet and could be easily set up to fatten Strats and Telecasters. In my time I have tired and always dropped a compressor on my board. This is the first one that has offered EXACTLY what I want from a Compressor. Ironically I got a Pantheon Just before the EGO..I will share that I love both pedals but I keep going back to the Ego through a little delay directly to my Tone King Imperial — a great amp that just got better. Wampler is on to something…(Do I really need the Euphoria ??)

  4. Dave Keane – Charlie Blues and the Doctors

For my 40th birthday I sat in Andertons for a whole afternoon cherry picking pedals for my ultimate board (am originally from Guildford). The Ego was the first of about 4 compressors I had to test. I didn’t bother checking out the other 3. It instantly became the pedal I built my birthday board around. I left Andertons with drives, Fuzz, reverb and delay. And while they all sounded good, with the Ego always on as the base of my tone, they all damn well sounded “more better”. My other pedals, my Marshall, my Les Paul, my 335, my strat, and I myself thank you Brian and team. Much love from the French alps, where the Ego and Terraform are helping bring blues and soul to the masses.

  5. Steve Waite

An indispensable tool for the studio and on the road – especially with a Tele or Strat but even with a trusty Les Paul. The Blend knob rules! Bravo Brian and Co.

  6. Ugo

If Cory Wong says this is the best compressor he ever tried, I believe him. That’s why I just bought one. It’s a question of faith!

  7. Dean Swiatek

The Ego is a very solid compressor. It’s very full featured and offers attack and blend in addition to volume, tone and sustain and is still a fairly compact pedal.

Half of the time, I use it to add compression to low volume practice when I’m not turning the amp up loud enough to compress.

  8. Brinsley Schwarz

Never off my board, never off, even when recording. The Blend control is perfect. Great pedal.

    • Wampler Pedals

Thanks Brinsley, never off our boards either!

  9. nile

    nice and tight

  10. Pedro

Never played one, but i’m sure it’s great!

  11. Jamie M Harrison

Just a super solid compressor. The blend is helpful in maintaining the sound of your hands and you don’t have to sound super affected if you don’t want to. It’s also not as noisy as some of our older choices in compression. You can get classic country squash but also just even things out in a subtle kind of way.

  12. Claytrell

Always on my board. Always on. Even picks up the local radio station! ;p

  13. Owen

Put it on my board 5 years ago, switched it on and played for a while. Switched it off for a couple of tracks, then switched it on again and it’s been on ever since! Great sustain and adds a sparkle to my tone
