There is one overdrive circuit to this day that has been among the most talked about, the most sought after, and the most mythical of them all. It‘s that legendary tone that every guitarist dreams of. Brian Wampler captured that magic with his original Tumnus circuit, and it has since graced the pedalboards of thousands of players around the world. The Tumnus has withstood the test of time and held its own in countless pedal shootouts, often coming out on top even against the original Klon pedal. The allure of that original overdrive had a lot to do with a very specific “secret” germanium diode, dubbed “unobtanium” by the original creator, Bill Finnegan. It was said that these diodes were the heartbeat of the coveted tone, but they had run out long ago. Despite this Wampler fans have been asking Brian to create a Tumnus using the same vintage specification clipping diode from those early Klons. After a massive hunt Brian found a small stash of these elusive diodes and used them to create a limited-edition run of pedals - the Germanium Tumnus. The Germanium Tumnus is a versatile addition to any pedal board. Stack it with another pedal to help push or shape the total amount of gain, use it as a slightly dirty boost to push the front end of your amp over the edge, or use it as a standalone overdrive pedal and let it roar as nature intended.

A Twist on a Classic
There is a reason the Tumnus has gained the reputation it has – it provides the perfect high headroom overdrive to send your tone into the place you’ve always dreamed it would go. The Germanium Tumnus adds an extra dimension with Germanium clipping diodes that help give this circuit some extra sizzle. This pedal will satisfy both the pedal connoisseur and those seeking a new workhorse on their board.
Always the Right Fit
If you want a pre-gain boost to fatten up your tone… the Germanium Tumnus delivers. If you want a standalone overdrive…. the Germanium Tumnus delivers. If you want…well, you get the picture here. Set the gain around 9 o’clock for a beautiful smooth boost and at noon for a fuller voiced, meaty drive. Turn the gain all the way up for a brutal, yet creamy overdriven tone. The Germanium Tumnus, like its golden sibling, delivers.
Brian’s Special Stash
After a massive hunt Brian sourced a quantity of vintage specification Germanium diodes and used them to create this limited-edition run of pedals – the Germanium Tumnus was born. This edition is steeped in a level of exclusivity with a tone that’s set to become legendary. This stash of “secret diodes” is limited, giving you a rare opportunity to own a piece of tone shaping history. Once they’re gone, they’re gone and this pedal will be discontinued.

Jason Jones –
As a former owner of 1st generation Klon in the 90s; I can happily say the Wampler Tumnus Germanium reminded me of why I should’ve kept the Klon- it’s that close! Stack and tweak with a good 808 and LOOK OUT! Play well cause you’re gonna hear every nuance of every note you play.
Matt Skirpan –
I must have logged in too early. Can’t wait!

This pedal is awesome! It seems to live with the volume dialed up and the overdrive a bit past noon. Awesome tone!! Throw it in front of a slightly dirty amp and it’s even better. I tried single coils and humbuckers and couldn’t get a bad tone. This was strictly an impulse buy even though I did want a tumnus. As soon as I saw the add I bought one and don’t regret it.

I have both the original Tumnus and Tumnus Deluxe, which are both excellent pedals. This germanium version has a bit more edge than the original Tumnus. I was lucky enough to see Brian’s post about it and ordered right away.
You can certainly get close with the original more so than the Deluxe. The Deluxe shines for higher gain settings where you need to dial in or out bass and mids. I run the germanium version with gain around 9:00 and volume just above unity. It gives a wonderful fatness to the signal. Works great with Strats, Teles and surprisingly my Gretsch Brian Setzer Nashville. I still have the original Tumnus and sometimes put it on my board for a medium gain sound.

This is the closest pedal , hands down to my original silver Klon , as any I’ve ever played. I own Seventeen different versions, might say I’m kinda crazy about the K Tone! Absolutely Love this Tumnus, as well as both other versions, The golden Minnie, and The Deluxe. There is something special about this silver though. Only regret,, I didn’t buy two….. If ever available, I sure would buy it again.
Shawn Briggs –
Received mine today. Sounds as close to a real Klon as any I’ve used or heard. And I’ve tried originals and many clones.
